Got back to my apartment today after five days of secret music writing. Checked to see if there was a letter from student housing, but then I laughed and realized how silly I must look actually thinking that there was even a chance such a thing would be in my mailbox. I have a better chance, I know, of reaching in and pulling out magic unicorn dust.
So I'll call tomorrow. Again. Hopefully I'll talk with a really nice person who will then transfer me to another really nice person who will then transfer me the answering machine of the great abyss. And then I'll send an e-mail, because I really enjoy acts of futility. They make me smile.
In my five days away I managed to write more reasonably acceptable music than I have ever done before in such a short period... something close to thirty minutes. Top secret project POWER is now at 90% of phase one completion. It's amazing what you can do when you literally aren't doing anything else other than eating, sleeping, and going for a run every day. It actually makes me sad because I realize how much of my time is utterly wasted by my attempts to multitask or procrastinate. But then I remember that if I did actually practice hyperfocus at all times I:
1. Wouldn't be a very fun person. (I'm not saying I am a fun person, but that would certainly take my fun factor to zero.)
and
2. Wouldn't have most of my always amazing friends. So many chance encounters while doing random things- wandering through halls, showing up at tryouts for a play, making cookies, etc... have led to wonderful friendships. The kind of friends who would come visit me even if all I had to offer was the floor in a tent. Which is probably what's going to happen next year. So that's good.
::hugs:: I'm glad you got your housing. And you're the best friend ever!
ReplyDeleteLove all the random meetings and chance friendships that last for YEARS. =)
